Many American military veterans have recently opted to go back to school and further their education.

Among them is former military intelligence analyst Jesse Greene, who recently saw that Gaston College was a good fit for him and this purpose, according to college spokeswoman Haleigh DiBetta. Now studying electronics engineering technology, Greene is just one of the Gaston College students who have decided to change the collective trajectory of their careers, as DiBetta recently noted.

Greene served for several years before being honorably discharged, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and a torn Achilles tendon. He recently said that his classmates and instructors have been invaluable toward helping him understand the material.

“I have found my brain rattling in this cage and wondering how I get out of the things I know and push to a new level of intellect,” he said. “As I learned in the military, the trick is to not give up.”

Greene added that many of his peers have also decided to take this leap of faith to return to college and pursue different career paths. He has been interested in electronics since he was little and felt studying electronics engineering technology was right for him.

“I have always had an affinity for electronics,” he said. “Even as a little child, I always wanted to break little gadgets down, unscrew them and see what the components were.”

After Gaston College, Greene said he hopes to find a job that combines his interest in electronics with cars and working with electric vehicles. Ideally, he said, he’d like to work at an assembly plant in the area or do repairs at a car dealership. In either role, Greene says he hopes to continue to help others and genuinely enjoy the work he’s doing.
