Last Friday was the last day on the job for Lincolnton Police Chief Rodney Jordan.  His retirement has prompted a significant number of calls to the Lincoln Herald asking, "who is the new chief?"  The answer is that one hasn't yet been named.

When Chief Jordan announced his retirement, the City proceeded to do what others including Gaston County and the Gastonia Police have done recently when they needed to find a replacement for a former chief--they advertised the opening through various channels and publications.  An agency that checks the backgrounds of applicants was secured.

So far, no one has been chosen for the job--and there's not a definite date when the new chief will be hired.

At Wednesday morning's (April 5th) Main Street Meetup, a monthly gathering of business owners and others involved with downtown Lincolnton, Major Brian Greene was introduced as the interim chief of police.

Greene joined the Lincolnton Police Dept. in 1996, working as a patrol officer for almost two years.  He became a detective in 1998 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2003, heading up the Criminal Investigations and Narcotics divisions until 2014.  He was promoted to Captain in July 2014 and was named Major in July 2021.  As both Captain and Major, he has served as assistant chief.

Although he has been with the Lincolnton Police for over 26 years and has been pegged 'interim' chief, Greene may or may not become the new Chief--that has not yet been decided.
