Juneteenth Festival June 17 & 19

Celebrate Freedom Day with a Juneteenth Community Festival in Historic Downtown Lincolnton on Saturday, June 17 then also on Monday, June 19 at Tucker’s Grove Campground in Iron Station! Both are free events featuring entertainment, youth activities and storytelling, artists, artisans, vendors, food and treats.

The event gets underway on Saturday, June 17 on the South Court Square in Lincolnton from 2-8 p.m. There also will be a great concert with the Next Level Bank of Charlotte starts at 6 p.m.

Then on Monday, June 19 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. the celebration will continue at Tucker\s Grove Campground, 4501 NC-73, Iron Station, NC 28080 with free food, historical education experiences and more!

Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. Also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Emancipation Day, Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

It recognizes the events of June 19, 1865, when news of President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas, freeing enslaved people in the furthest reaches of the South. The event took place two and a half years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863.
