On Sunday afternoon (March 31st) at 5:30, officers with the Lincolnton Police Department responded to a shooting incident at Times Turnaround gas station at 2568 East Main St. in Lincolnton.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the victim, who was a customer at the gas station.  He told officers that a male, later identified as Billy Ray Galloway, 39, of Denver,  entered his vehicle and attempted to steal it while brandishing a knife.  The victim then retrieved his handgun and fired the gun, striking Galloway.

Galloway was still on scene when officers arrived and was treated by Lincoln County EMS for the gunshot wound before being transported by EMS to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia with non-life-threatening injuries.

Galloway was later charged with Attempted Robbery by the Lincolnton Police Department and arrested by Gastonia Police Department while being released from the hospital Monday.  He was transported to the Gaston County Magistrate’s Office for warrant service and is currently incarcerated in the Gaston County Jail.

The Department would like to recognize the men and women of the Lincolnton Police Department that came together to solve this robbery.  The Department would also like to thank the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with the investigation and the Gastonia Police Department for their apprehension of the suspect.
