Based on Department of Social Security and the U.S. Census Bureau, Mary Pless was born April 1, 1924 in Lincoln County.

Born to Bertha Roseboro and John Sanders, she attended school, worked, married, mothered her only son by adoption, Mickey; gave her life to Christ, attended several churches and lived a very simplistic life for the last 100 years!

She preached at Second Baptist and Lovely Holy Temple; membership at Goldhill Baptist and Rockhill Methodist churches as an active member. Became a member of the EASTERN STAR and resigned when she gave her life to Christ.

Worked as a nanny most of her life; also worked at Tylon Zipper until it closed. Resided over 60 years in or near Stanley, North Carolina. Married Clarence PLESS in 1941.

Born into hard times, she and her parents lived through the GREAT DEPRESSION of 1929 under President Calvin Coolidge experienced the negative impacts of the GREAT DEPRESSION in her early years. Her life was shaped by several other presidents besides Calvin Coolidge, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, President Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, etc.

On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Mrs. Mary Pless was honored for her Centennial "100th" Birthday Celebration, by nieces, great-nieces, family, friends and many well-wishers. Her celebration took place on the grounds of Rock Hill Methodist Church, 7603 Old Plank Road, Stanley, NC 28164.

She was also honored to receive the Centennial Proclamation presented by Sheriff Bill Beam.

Sheriff Beam, represented one of his programs, the RUOK Program that paid a visit to Aunt Mary's home every morning for a wellness check, until she personally discontinued the service.
