Joseph “Joe” Siceloff Jones

June 19, 1938 – April 17, 2024


CONOVER, N.C. - Joseph “Joe” Siceloff Jones, 85, of Conover, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 19, 1938 in Catawba County to the late Hoke and Aileen Garvin Jones. Joe was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton and retired as a manager from General Electric after 40 years of service. After college, he attended OCS and became a Captain in the National Guard and the Commander of the Newton National Guard Unit.

Joe served as the Chairman of the Catawba County Social Services Board and Vice Chairman of the State Social Services Board for four years. He served on the Catawba County Library Board during the building of the Newton Library and the first Sherrills Ford Library. Joe also served on the Catawba County Equalization and Review board.

He loved woodworking and working with computers. Joe enjoyed working with the group refurbishing the Newton Depot, and later worked with the Authority and their donations. Joe also enjoyed working with the Wednesday Morning boys at the First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hoke Jones Jr.; and sisters, Delores Ledbetter and Betty Coley.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years Brenda Barringer Jones of the home; son Joseph “Joey” Jones and wife Julie of Conover; daughter Lucinda “Cindy” Bensen and husband Chris of Key West, Fla.; grandchildren Christopher Jones, Judith Jones Huguley and husband Trey, Lucinda Jones Higgins and husband Matt, Matthew Uschelbec, Adam Uschelbec and Griffin Uschelbec and wife Amber; niece Cathy Breault and husband Tim; and nephew Tom Ledbetter and wife Cindy.

A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 701 N Main Ave., Newton. Rev. Dr. David Roquemore and Rev. Fred Thompson will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium. The family will receive friends and hold a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
