GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kay Sherrill Rankin, 81, of Greensboro, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Beacon Place at Authoracare.

She was born March 1, 1943 in Charleston County, S.C. to the late Lendal Earnest Sherrill and Ruby Hughey Sherrill Ames. Kay attended Guilford College United Methodist Church and retired from the NCDOC. She enjoyed singing in church, cooking, and taking care of poodles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Tommy Crouch; and her third husband, David Rankin.

Those left to cherish her memory is her son Scott Caldwell and wife Linda of Newton; father of her children Ronnie Caldwell and wife Mildred of Newton; daughter Ronica C. Bowen and husband George of Greensboro; grandchildren Sammy Bowen and Georgeanna (Lawrence) Bowen Le; great-grandchildren Laura Le and Bowen Le.

A service to celebrate Kay’s life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Matt Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 at 12 noon at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
