Christian Ministry Needs LINC Meals Drivers

Plus: How you can volunteer to make the difference

LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry’s LINC Meals program still needs volunteers.

That’s the word this week from Christian Ministry Executive Director Mitzi Williams. As Williams explained, this vital service greatly needs drivers to deliver meals locally.

“Our LINC Home-Delivered Meals volunteers serve those in need in our community by delivering hot meals, Monday through Friday, to homebound residents in Lincoln County. We’re in desperate need of volunteer drivers. It normally takes about an hour, start to finish, and you can drive as little as once a month.”

Routes available include the West Lincoln I route, Mondays and Tuesdays in rotation; the West Lincoln II route, on the first Friday and third Tuesday; the Lincoln Avenue route, on the first and third Friday and the fourth Wednesday; the Covenant Church route, on the third and fifth Thursday; the Boger City II route on the first Friday; and the St. Luke’s Episcopal route on the third and fifth Monday.

To volunteer to be a LINC Meals driver, Williams encourages you to contact Betty Leonard by telephone or e-mail: (704) 732-0383 or [email protected].

In other news, Williams recapitulated her recent theme of April as Volunteer Appreciation Month.

“Our ministry relies on volunteers every day to help us meet the needs of those in our community,” she said. “The volunteers that work on our dock help to pack the boxes and buggies of food and grocery items that our clients get daily. Our member churches have a month that they supply volunteer packers for a few days. But we can use volunteers any time.

“We have volunteers that help in our soup kitchen daily with the meal preparation and serving,” she added. “We also have volunteer groups that serve in the soup kitchen on weekends and holidays when we are closed. We still have two dates open for those days if you or your group would like to volunteer.”

Those days are the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29, and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2025.
