Teresa Lynn Cass Matthews
Teresa Lynn Cass Matthews, age 59, entered Heaven on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Teresa was a very strong woman and proved that until her last breath. She had her loving daughter beside her that never left her side and held her hand as she transitioned into the Heavenly Kingdom. Teresa loved the Lord and even sang her favorite hymns with her daughter on her last day. For those she loved, she loved fiercely and charitably. Teresa had such a creative personality and her talents were vast. She loved listening to music and was a self-taught guitarist.
She was an excellent baker and also had a wonderful green thumb. Although Teresa loved being with her family in her last days, she also longed to once again be reunited with her loving husband, Tim Matthews who preceded her in death.
Teresa is also preceded in death by her father, Lynn Jabrahn Cass.
She is survived by her only child, Nichole Whitehurst, and son-in-law, Jeff Whitehurst of Tarboro. She is also survived by her four pride and joy grandbabies-Noah "Noah Lyn", Caleb "Caleb Caleb", Eli "Fruitsy", and Ethan "Punkin Punkin". She is also survived by her mother (Betty Bennett Hurley), sister Lorie (Mike) Tomlin, sister Renee (Lew) Elias, multiple nieces and nephews, several grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many friends (some of which helped take care of her while she was still at her home).
A special thank you to both Hospices that so lovingly assisted during this difficult time.
A service to celebrate Teresa’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Curtis White will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. Those serving as pallbearers will be Darrell Hollar, Jason Gregg, Logan Belair, Chris Kassum, Randy Medlin, and Buford White.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to Nichole Whitehurst to offset funeral costs, 3281 Eugene James Rd., Tarboro, NC 27886.
