Register & Vote!

We hear it every day: people saying they are turned off by all the political hassling in Washington, some of them vowing to show their disdain by not voting.  That's a BIG mistake!

Not only is voting your right as a citizen; it is also your responsibility.  Democracy doesn't work unless the people participate in the process.

In most local elections in our area, the Primary Election on March 5th will decide local races.  Among them are the Board of Education in Lincoln & Catawba counties; several seats on the County Commissioners (the people who set your property tax rate and choose what projects your county funds); two seats on the Lincolnton City Council; and other local races in some counties. There are also choices to be made including who will represent you in Congress; who will be Governor and Lt. Governor of North Carolina.

Rather than just complain, VOTE!  Early Voting begins Thursday February 15th.  During Early Voting you can both register and vote at the same time at any of the Early Voting locations in your county.

If you want to vote on Election Day (March 5th) you must register (if you haven't already) TODAY (Friday February 9th).  Individuals who miss the deadline may register and vote during the in-person Early Voting period, which runs from Feb. 15th through March 2nd. These “same-day registrants” must attest to their eligibility and provide proof of where they live, in addition to showing an acceptable form of photo ID for voting. For more information, see Register in Person During Early Voting.

To make sure you're ready, check your registration here!

Simply type in your first and last name, and hit search.  Then you can select your name from a list and see if you are registered at your current address.

If you need to register or update your registration, we can help with that!

  • If you have an NC driver's license or DMV ID, click here to learn how to register or update your registration online.
  • You can also get a paper form here and take it to your county board of elections office (find the address here).

Remember: If you miss this deadline, you can still use Same Day Registration during Early Voting (February 15 - March 2) to register for the first time or update your registration.
