CATAWBA, N.C. - Harold Edward Lunsford, 78, of Catawba, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Carolina Caring Sherrills Ford Hospice House.

He was born September 12, 1945 in Johnson County, Tenn. to the late Shelby Jet Lunceford and Dorothy Stansbury Lunceford. Harold was of the Baptist faith and was a United States Army Veteran, who proudly served as a Vietnam veteran in the 173rd airborne. He enjoyed gardening, working and tinkering with machinery and old farm equipment, horseback riding in his earlier years and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Buford, Ron, L.C., Clarence and Carl Lunceford; and sisters, Peggy and Iris Lunceford.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years Wilma Brown Lunsford of the home; daughters Belinda Lunsford and Brad Hicks of Claremont, Christine Wesson and husband Jason of Claremont; brother Jerry Dale Lunceford of Mountain City, Tenn.; sisters Margie Lunceford of Butler, Tenn., Patsy Moore of Butler, Tenn., Jean Campbell of Butler, Tenn.; grandchildren Emily Sites, Cody Hamby, Trinity Wesson, Elijah Wesson, Abigail Wesson and Elizabeth Wesson.

A memorial service with military honors to celebrate Harold’s life was held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Brother Terry Williams officiated. The family received friends prior to the service from 10-10:45 a.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
