HICKORY, N.C. - Jack David Leatherman, 74, of Hickory, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Carolina Caring in Newton.

He was born December 7, 1949 in Iredell County to the late Hugh and Mary Frye Leatherman. Jack was a member of Church of Christ, a United States Army veteran and a proud Vietnam veteran, and retired after 34 years as a forklift operator at Weyerheauser. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, going to yard sales, and participating in the West Hickory Seniors membership.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, A.L. Leatherman, James Leatherman, Bobby Leatherman, Jerry Leatherman, and M.L. Leatherman, and Marvin Leatherman.

Those left to cherish his memory is his son Phillip Leatherman and wife Kim of Lincolnton; daughter Carie Mosteller and husband Tracy of Lincolnton; sister Elise Sanders of Catawba; sisters-in-law Judy Leatherman of Catawba County, Kathy Leatherman of Catawba County, Brenda Leatherman of Catawba County; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren Melissa, Shane, Staci, Jonathan, and Grace; great-grandchildren Donovan, Chelsie, Caitlin, Braylon, and Zane.

A memorial service with military honors by American Legion Post 544 to celebrate Jack’s life was held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Tommy Young officiated. The family received friends prior to the service from 1-2:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
